Project, Resources, Portfolios: everything at a glance with Microsoft Project Professional 2019
Project Professional in the 2019 version is a tool that covers the full scope of project management: Project managers use this software to manage resources such as staff, time and budget and keep track of numerous simultaneous projects. In addition, projects can be almost unlimited in their scope: From small tasks to issues which span over several years and are therefore of particular importance. Collaborating on projects of this nature is possible, either locally over the network or through the cloud, saving small and large businesses time and money while keeping them up-to-date on specific projects.
Microsoft Project Professional 2019 brings improved portfolio management to help you keep track of even large numbers of different projects. With this element of the program, decision-makers immediately recognise which projects are currently going according to plan and which ones require intervention. Users can track schedules and the Budget Management function provides an overview of monetary resources, making human resources management even easier. The prioritization function provides information on whether key projects are progressing as planned or whether the project manager should intervene. Direct assistance through analysis functions and corresponding instructions is also available in Portfolio Management.
Syncing with Project Online and Project Server also makes it possible to manage this type of functionality in larger organisations and the cloud. Team members can then immediately synchronise new entries in the project with other employees and do not have to be directly involved. In addition, users of Microsoft Project Professional 2019 can integrate Skype for Business directly into the program. Text and video chats and presence checks can be conducted directly from the software, which also significantly simplifies project collaboration. Skype for Business is not included and must be purchased separately.
Finance departments in companies can calculate the payroll for team members on a task both directly in relation to a project within the software and record other expenses. Employees also issue legal invoices in Microsoft Project Professional 2019 and record work done in timetables provided by templates. This makes Project Professional 2019 more than just a project management tool. The software can also facilitate the budgeting and financing of tasks of any kind if required. The integration of business intelligence software further facilitates this process.
However, users who have not previously used Microsoft Project Professional will experience the full functionality of the program immediately – with templates that are included with the software and allow even the most complex projects to be created in minutes. These templates can be edited and saved for later use in other projects, so that only a simple change of year, and not a completely fresh start, is required to prepare future annual reports over the coming years. The vast majority of predecessor functions and well-known tools can also be found in the 2019 version, which makes it easier for experienced users to switch to the latest version.
Microsoft is making this edition of Project Professional available only to users of Windows 10. Other operating systems are not supported. It is a full-fledged license without subscription costs, so it can also be used offline. Microsoft will support Project Professional 2019 with all updates released during at least the next five years. This includes security and feature updates.
